When looking for professionals to support your child’s development, the most important thing to know is that they can come from a variety of backgrounds. I’ve seen parents find great partners who have been trained in just about any discipline, some with decades of experience in autism services and many who were just starting out. What they have in common is the desire and ability to recognize competence in your child and the openness to learn about your child’s unique neurodevelopmental profile.

Here are some therapeutic approaches you may want to consider. When you talk with potential partners, share your understanding of your child’s development and ask how they would approach supporting your child’s growth in each area.
